MEEPA Event – Supporting Accessible Employment
Manitoba Employment Equity Practitioners Association (MEEPA) is partnering with the Disabilities Issues Office (DIO) to co-host an event on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, from 9:00 am to 12:15 pm (registration at 8:30 am) at the Viscount Gort Hotel, Main Floor, 1670 Portage Avenue, in Winnipeg to celebrate Manitoba Access Awareness Week. The Manitoba government proclaims Manitoba Access Awareness Week annually to raise awareness about accessibility issues and the contribution of Manitobans with disabilities.
This learning event offers businesses and organizations a unique opportunity to consider How and Why to Support Accessible Employment and meet the requirements of the new Accessibility Standard for Employment.
Our keynote speaker is Maureen Haan, Executive Director, Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW), who is a Canadian expert on “The Business Case for Hiring Persons with Disabilities.” Ms. Haan presentation will be followed by an overview of how the Accessibility Standard for Employment can help your workplace recruit, hire and reach the full potential of a diverse workforce.
The remainder of the morning will focus on the standard’s requirements ensuring Safety Comes First, with a May 1, 2020 deadline. Moderated by Winnipeg’s Independent Living Resource Centre, a panel of individuals with disabilities will offer insights on how employers can collaborate with their employees to keep everybody safe.
